The Hempstead Prevention Coalition connects the most influential and trusted voices in the Village of Hempstead to combat substance misuse and promote a safer, healthier community.
The Hempstead Prevention Coalition (HPC) connects the most influential and trusted voices in and around the Village of Hempstead to focus on the reduction of substance use, with a primary focus on reducing youth substance use in the Village of Hempstead community. HPC currently has over 30 member organizations consisting of educational facilities, community-based organizations, government agencies, non-profits, chemical dependency treatment facilities, prevention programs, human service organizations, and more, representing the 12 sectors of community.
By implementing trainings, programs, and initiatives based on the Strategic Prevention Framework and the 7 Strategies for Community Change as set forth by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), HPC is helping to create a safer, healthier Hempstead.

"Although rich with resources and services, service organizations in the Village of Hempstead have historically worked in silos. In just the last quarter of 2019, the Hempstead Prevention Coalition (HPC) successfully overcame these barriers and assembled over 30 community-based and government organizations to collaboratively address the pervasive substance misuse issues that plague the Village of Hempstead community. By implementing the Strategic Preventions Framework and the 7 Strategies for Community Change model, as set forth by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). HPC has built the buy-in and momentum needed for short and long-term sustainable community change."
