Mark your calendars and come join us for our FREE Senior H.O.P.E. (Happiness, Opportunity, Positive, Energy) Fair taking place on September 10th from 10:00am-3:00pm       at the Samanea Mall in Westbury, center court, 2nd floor.  The H.O.P.E. Fair is geared towards older adults and their families, where attendees can receive information about age-related, mental health, and substance use services.  We’ll have a technology van on site to provide technology education lessons and raffle prizes too

 A FREE boxed lunch and raffle ticket will be provided for any senior who registers prior to the event, so be sure to click below to register!

There will also be FOUR educational workshops held throughout the day:

10:45am – 11:15am   Medicare & More

Explore your Medicare eligibility, when to enroll, and review how hospital and medical insurance coverage work.  Get a better understanding of Medicare drug plans and various options for additional coverage to fill the Medicare gaps.  Plus get your Medicare questions answered.

11:45am – 12:15pm  Financial Exploitation, Scam Prevention & Elder Abuse

Could you recognize a scam related to Artificial Intelligence? How about one from the Social Security Administration or the IRS? Did you know there are Grandparent scams, Romance scams, and even ones from Amazon? 

This workshop will include information on: 

  • How to identify a scam
  • Common Scams to be aware of
  • Ways by which scams, and financial abuse and exploitation occur
  • Ways to protect yourself from becoming a victim of a scam
  • AND What to do if you have been a victim

Additionally, this workshop will touch upon:

  • Types of elder abuse: financial and neglect or financial and psychological, physical, etc. – and ways to get help.

 

12:45pm – 1:15pm  Caring for the Caregiver

Are you caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or Dementia?  Caregivers frequently experience high levels of stress and burden. Taking care of yourself is one of the most important things you can do as a caregiver. Find tips for making time for yourself. Caregivers will learn about the importance of building an Alzheimer’s support network and using respite care. Get resources for coping and how to care for your own physical, mental, and spiritual health. Learn about supportive resources like respite; support groups, joint enrichment programs for caregivers and their care partners, and more.

1:45pm – 2:15pm     A Healthy Mind and Body as We Age

Let’s learn about mental health, how to manage substances, healthy ways to cope with challenges, and how we can support each other through the aging process!
