GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — August 2026 — Family & Children’s Association (FCA), a leading Long Island nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals and families overcome challenges and build stronger futures, is proud to announce it has received a $25,000 grant from the Peter & Jeri Dejana Foundation.
Over the past decade, Long Island has seen the largest increase in its senior population of any area in New York State outside New York City. Older adults frequently face co-occurring challenges, including social isolation, untreated mental illness, hoarding, financial exploitation, and housing instability that traditional offices cannot resolve. Funding provided by the Dejana Foundation will help support homebound and isolated seniors, helping them access essential community resources and the support they need to improve their quality of life.

“The affordability crisis facing communities across America has remained a priority for the Dejana Foundation, particularly as we see its effects manifest in suburban communities like those here on Long Island. Rising costs of housing, food, health care, and other necessities can place an especially heavy burden on older adults, many of whom are living on fixed incomes and face difficult choices simply to remain independent in their own homes,” said Hugo Amador, Public Relations & Communications Manager, Peter & Jeri Dejana Foundation.

At the same time, we hope to help draw greater attention to the broader economic pressures that are making it increasingly difficult for older adults to age securely in the communities they call home.”
For over 142 years, FCA has served as a trusted resource for Long Islanders, offering a wide range of programs designed to promote stability, independence, and well-being. The grant received from the Dejana Foundation closes a critical funding gap that would otherwise have reduced FCA’s capacity to serve Nassau County’s homebound senior adults—the exact population FCA exists to protect.
