Camp Appeal

As the weather warms up on Long Island, there’s a special kind of excitement brewing at FCA. It’s that time of year when we start planning summer adventures for the children we serve – adventures that many of them would never experience without your support.

Last summer, we watched as 8-year-old Maya (not her real name) stood frozen at the edge of the swimming pool. She’d never been swimming before – never had the chance. By the end of the week, with gentle encouragement, she was splashing around with newfound confidence, calling out “Watch me!” to anyone who would look.

This is the magic of summer camp. It’s not just about fun (though there’s plenty of that!) – it’s about growth, discovery, and creating memories that shape who these children become.

For our kids ages 5-12, the summer camp experience offers opportunities that expand their worlds:

• Swimming three times weekly with dedicated lifeguards ensuring safety
• Weekly field trips to places like museums, farms, and amusement parks
• On-site activities including arts and crafts, dance, karate, and animal shows
• Social-emotional learning that builds confidence and resilience
• Talent shows where children discover and share their unique gifts

But here’s the reality we face: We need to raise over $50,000 to make camp possible for children whose families cannot afford this experience.
