Recovery Story of the Month – August 2023

Aug 31, 2023 | Stories

Hi, my name is Tina Gill and I have been in Recovery since March 16th of 2023.

I ended up at St. Joseph’s with a bleeding ulcer due to my use. While at St. Josephs I was told about the Sherpa Program. On March 21st I met with Rebekah Silverman of Sherpa. Rebekah explained to me the Sherpa Program and how she could help provide not only Peer Support but linkage to whatever Treatment option I wanted. I decided to try first with Outpatient. Rebekah sat with me and did an intake with Victory Outpatient in Massapequa Park.

While doing the intake my GI doctor was ready to do my surgery. Rebekah emphasized that this intake was extremely important to my recovery. The surgeon let me finish my intake and wheeled me out into surgery upon my completion. My surgery went well and upon discharge I started attending Victory Recovery Partners of Massapequa Park.

Rebekah has followed up with me weekly and provided motivation and support in my Recovery. Being linked to outpatient through Sherpa has been a life saver. Victory has provided me with the support and clinical care I have needed and continues to. I believe the partnership that St. Josephs has with the Sherpa program is extremely important to provide outside resources and on-going care for people in Recovery. Meeting with Rebekah who is also in Recovery gave me a different perspective in showing me people do recover. I am now almost 6 months in Recovery thanks to all the resources provided for me from St. Josephs to Sherpa to Victory Outpatient.
