I’ve been coming into treatment at FCA for about 7 months now. I was taking around 20mg per day of Xanax, and thinking I would never been able to get off of it. In the beginning I didn’t even want to get off of it. But I slowly started to sober up and go through my treatment. I realized there is more to life than popping pills every day and getting high. Ever since I’ve been coming to FCA I’ve been able to talk through my issues without needing to take my anxiety medication. I’ve been able to change my life for the better with the support of my primary counselor Sergio and peer advocate Brian. I feel like if it wasn’t for them I would be dead by now to be completely honest. My future goals now include becoming a criminal defense attorney to help others who are suffering to get into treatment and succeed in any way possible. There is a lot of stigma around addiction and the majority of the time people start to get addicted through prescription medications for pain or anxiety without even being aware of it happening because a doctor prescribed it.
