Providing Guidance to Young Parents

Niviah, a local 16-year-old mother with another baby on the way, was looking to make a change in her life.  Unsure of where to turn for help, Niviah began participating in Active Parenting classes and counseling sessions with FCA’s Prevention Program.

“When I first started, I was a bit frustrated but determined to get along with my life and get things done. Ms. Smith and FCA’s Prevention Program made it very easy to register for their programming. On top of having a two-year-old, I was pregnant with my second child due April 2021. Nevertheless, with the support of FCA, I received continuous support and motivation from Prevention Program staff to return to school.  I am now proud to say that I am on track to graduate August 2021.

Ms. Smith and her team have been a big help with educating Jason & I on how to deal with different situations with our children and between us two. We have gained many new coping skills and learned so much from the other parents.  The Active Parenting curriculum has assisted us with achieving our goals and staying on the path to achieve them.  We are very thankful to be able to participate in this parenting group and to be a part of the FCA family.” -Niviah, FCA Program Participant
